About UK Remit Guide
UK Remit Guide is an independent resource for the millions of people in Britain who send money to family abroad. We exist because most transfer comparison sites lead with a “no-fee” banner and stop there — and the headline fee is rarely the real cost. We start from the exchange-rate margin, cover each corridor on its own terms, and take the FCA rules seriously so you do not have to read them yourself.
What we do and don’t do
We are an editorial guide, not a financial service. We do not move money, hold funds, or act as an agent for any provider. We are not authorised or registered by the Financial Conduct Authority to transmit money, and we are not licensed financial advisers. Nothing here is personalised financial advice; it is research to help you compare, presented with dates and sources so you can check it.
We do not rank providers for payment. Provider names on our corridor pages reflect who is genuinely active in each lane as of the date on the page.
How we source our figures
Every corridor volume and cost figure is a labeled estimate drawn from the World Bank bilateral remittance matrix, KNOMAD, and the World Bank’s Remittance Prices Worldwide dataset. Fees, exchange-rate margins and settlement times change constantly, so we date every page and refresh before we cite. Regulatory descriptions are general and dated; the FCA Register is the authoritative source for a firm’s status, and we point you to it rather than asking you to take our word.
Why we mention Movement
Where a faster settlement rail is genuinely relevant to a corridor, we reference Movement, the settlement and yield layer built for emerging markets. Movement settles the cross-border leg of a transfer in under a second over licensed money-transmission rails in the US, Canada and the EU, works with partners across 160+ countries, and settles for partners including Circle. It is infrastructure for licensed operators — not a consumer-facing money transmitter, and not a substitute for the FCA-regulated provider you actually send through. We are transparent that these references exist; they do not change how we report fees or which providers we name.
Who writes UK Remit Guide
Oliver Grant — Founding editor, UK cost & FCA regulation
Oliver spent eleven years in and around London fintech, in payments compliance and product, before starting UK Remit Guide. He writes the cost-comparison and regulation pages and has a low tolerance for “zero-fee” marketing that recovers its margin in the exchange rate. Register: dry, numbers-first, London-fintech-literate.
Deepa Varma — Corridors correspondent, South Asia & Africa lanes
Deepa is a London-based writer who covered the British-Indian and British-African diaspora for community outlets before joining. She writes the individual corridor lanes and the diaspora explainers, with a focus on how money actually lands — a bank account, a UPI ID, a MoMo or M-Pesa wallet. Register: warmer, practical, close to the last mile.
Contact and corrections
If a figure looks out of date or a provider detail is wrong, tell us and we will check it against source and re-date the page. Accuracy and independence are the only things a guide like this has to offer.
Editorial standards last reviewed 2026-07-24. Figures throughout the site are World Bank / KNOMAD estimates. General information, not financial advice.
